Wow, I just read an amazing verse! (I’ve read it hundreds of times before…it’s amazing how that works).
Most of us hate a spineless individual, someone who can’t make up their mind about anything. However, most citizens of the United States have turned into blobs of jello that just mold into whatever is happening around them. Very rarely does someone become solid enough on any particular fact or thought unless it suits there good interests. We have become such a non-offensive society that when anyone stands up for what they believe in, they come across like a baseball bat into that blob of jello. Or they speak out harshly about a topic that they know the majority of their peers will agree with. It seems as Christians we also are more and more avoiding conflict or uncomfortable conversations. We don’t want to cause a problem for ourselves by being bold, and then either being wrong or punished.
This is horribly, terribly wrong. God’s truth is not some free floating mass of collected prose that has occasional relativity to various personal circumstances. God’s Word is diamond hard point of light that cuts through to the very core of a person’s being. It is powerful – so sharp it can divide a man’s soul and his spirit. (Heb. 4:12). It has truth that applies to EVERY circumstance in a man’s life. (2 Peter 1:3).
The problem is, that as Christians we have ceased to dwell and meditate upon God’s Word to the depth that we are hardened by it. We enjoy fitting into this American Society’s way of living. Thus we have become the spineless blob of jello we so despise. And when we do actually get forceful enough to try and make a “Biblical” point, we are so uninformed that a lost person whose beliefs represent a green gelatinous mass can bounce us right off the table. We say we believe the Bible yet we either shrink from confrontation or we fail in our attempts at presenting God’s Absolute Truth. Sometimes in the back of our minds we even fail to bring up the topic of salvation because it has become so watered down in our heads that even we WHO ARE SAVED have lost the iron-clad truth of it.
It does not have to be this way. Proverbs 21:20-21 says, “Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge, That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee?” (KJV)
God gave us truth, not just any truth but “EXCELLENT” truth. He has given us excellent things with which to counter the devil’s watery blobbery. We need not fear confrontation with the world’s gelatinous philosophers; relativity need not be our great demise. We hold the truth!
And why did He give us this truth? For two reasons: Firstly, “That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth”. For us to combat the malleable forces in this world we must first know the Firmness of the Truth that He gave us. We KNOW that we are saved, now we must proceed further and KNOW that God gave us Absolute Truth, not pretty maxims to quote impressively at functions that only include our little cult. And we need to KNOW this Truth, study it, memorize it, meditate upon it. Each verse has its application, what is that application? Study God’s Word and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you the hard truth behind the passage you are reading. Discover it, talk about it, share it, and let it become a part of you! When you begin to see God’s Word become active in its Truth in your life, then you will know the certainty of His Truth.
Secondly, “that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee”. Disciples of Jesus Christ are surrounded on every side by those who are sending us questions, and more and more we do not have the answers. Not because there are no answers, but we don’t know them! We haven’t, as stated above, gotten to know the Book that contains the answers. However, when we get to know God’s Word, we will have the answer of ringing hard truth to give to those who have no form of their own.
Relativity Blobs will always be intrigued by those who have Absolute Truth. Why? There are two reasons: the lost will always have a thirst for something. “The eyes of man are never satisfied.” Prov. 27:20. Now most people do not seek for God, “There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.
Romans 3:11″ (KJV). However, they are all thirsting for something, “Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:” John 4:13 (KJV). The second reason is that God draws men unto Himself and He uses man to present Himself to men! “44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him” John 6:44 (KJV). We are to know the Truth at all times for these two reasons, to answer Truth to those who are wicked and give Truth to those who are seeking God.
How hard are we supposed to be? Well, the book of Ephesians tells us that a Christian is supposed to wear armor. Now many of us like the shield of faith, but we forget “the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God” Eph 6:17 (KJV). The Bible is our offensive weapon, and it is a hard, sharp weapon. Jello never lasts very long when there is a spoon around, so how do you think it will do against the Spirit-empowered Sword of God’s Word wielded by a Spirit-empowered Soldier of Jesus Christ?
So, quit being a spineless blob just floating along the river of life. Pick up your Sword, get to know the Book, and go out there and give the lost the TRUTH!
